Attuned Educators: Understanding and Responding to Early Childhood Trauma
This 2 part workshop will provide early childhood educators with an opportunity to develop their skills and confidence in working with children who have experienced trauma.
Educators should complete the 90 minute Self Care for Educators workshop prior to the Supporting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma workshop.
Self Care for Educators
Working with children, particularly children at risk or who have a history of trauma, can have a significant impact on staff. In turn, children who have experienced trauma can be particularly attuned to the emotions of those caring for them. Educators need to be aware of their own arousal and regulation in order to appropriately co regulate children.
This workshop focuses on strategies that staff can utilise to support their own wellbeing and manage their own regulation, within the context of developing skills in working with children who have experienced trauma.
Supporting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma
This workshop will assist educators to understand the types of trauma children can experience, recognise what trauma can look like in an early education setting and develop an understanding of why some behaviours occur. We will then discuss strategies to support children in an early childhood setting who have experienced trauma. During the workshop we will talk about the impact of trauma on the brain and The Window of Tolerance. No prior knowledge is required.
