Our workshops are designed to be engaging, including the use of small group discussions and case examples to ensure that participants have time to consider the material in relation to their specific roles. National Principles Workshop
Ensure your staff understand how to create a culture where child safety is prioritised. Child Safe Essentials Workshop
Further develop your organisations commitment to child safety through discussion of how the Principles/Standards reduce risk within organisations providing services to children. This interactive workshop is designed for organisations who already have a good understanding of The Standards/National Principles. This workshop will cover The Standards/Principles in the context of identifying risks in organisations and responding to disclosures or concerns children are at risk. Child Safe Practices Workshop
This half day workshop will equip participants with knowledge and skills to keep children safe within your organisation and to respond to children who may be at risk. This interactive workshop will cover The Child Safe Standards/National Principles with additional coverage of self care for staff, the types of harm children can experience and strategies to respond to disclosures or concerns a child is at risk. Self Care for Staff
Working with children, particularly children at risk or who have a history of trauma, can have a significant impact on staff. This workshop focuses on strategies that staff can utilise to support their own wellbeing. This involves developing an understanding of looking after ourselves so we can look after other people. There will be a brief discussion of some of the particular challenges of working with children and situations where staff may have pre existing relationships with families. We will explore some of the signs that we need to remind ourselves to implement self care and some of the barriers to self care. Supporting Children Who Have Experienced Trauma
This workshop will assist educators and teachers to understand the types of trauma children can experience, recognise what trauma can look like in a classroom setting and develop an understanding of why some behaviours occur. We will then discuss strategies to support children in a classroom setting who have experienced trauma. During the workshop we will talk about the impact of trauma on the brain and The Window of Tolerance. Problem Sexual Behaviour in Young Children
This workshop will support educators to understand the difference between age/ developmentally appropriate sexual behaviours and concerning/harmful sexual behaviours. The session is targeted to early education and primary school. During the workshop we will start to develop strategies for responding to concerning and harmful sexual behaviours in young children and understand the importance of safety planning to keep all children safe. Responding to Disclosures
This 60 minute presentation will cover strategies for responding to disclosures from children. Despite most staff understanding that reporting is required if a child is at risk many staff express anxiety about managing disclosures. During this presentation we will cover key steps staff can take if they believe a child is at risk and strategies to use in situations when they are unsure whether they should report. Recognising and Responding to the Risk of Grooming
During this presentation we will cover: What the statistics tell us about child sexual abuse in Australia Why perpetrators engage in grooming Examples of grooming behaviours towards children Examples of grooming behaviours towards other staff Strategies organisations can use to reduce the risk. The Victorian Reportable Conduct Scheme
Many organisations across Victoria are covered by the Reportable Conduct Scheme. Whilst this scheme requires organisations to investigate allegations of misconduct involving children it also plays a part in deterring harmful behaviour from staff/volunteers to children. The scheme relies on organisations to recognise when a staff member of volunteer has acted inappropriately. It is essential that everyone within the organisation understands the scheme. This presentation will ensure staff understand their obligations under the scheme and the importance of speaking up if they see something that concerns them.
